Summiting a volcano.

Resolving complex social issues.

Both are challenging. Both are possible.

Together, we can make it happen.

Our Services

Tackling complex social issues requires a clear and deliberate systems-change approach.  We facilitate the processes that enable our clients to design winning strategies to achieve transformational change.

We work with our clients to determine the most relevant options for addressing complex social issues.  Systems change interventions range from changing public policy to voluntary adoption of new industry norms; from formation of a new collective intelligence to changing individual values and beliefs; from helping businesses to become socially conscious to transforming their business model to be socially relevant; from strengthening existing institutions to changing society closer to the core; or from using technology as a tool to turning technology into a catalyst for positive social change.

We also offer expert advice on the institutional aspects of resolving complex social issues through systems change. We help our clients and partners incorporate a systems change lens into strategic planning, HR and talent, collaboration, funding, impact measurement, IT, and management systems.

The Dawn of System Leadership

The Stanford Social Innovation Review Winter 2014 edition feature article “The Dawn of System Leadership” by Peter Senge, Hal Hamilton and John Kania describes the deep changes necessary to accelerate progress against society’s most intractable problems require a unique type of leader—the system leader, a person who catalyzes collective leadership.

The Systems are Not Working to Save the Planet. Nor is the Allocation of Funding.

This article, authored by Valeria Merino, asserts that the environmental challenges facing the planet need a systems-change approach, but also critically, these challenges need much more steady, flexible funding. Funders would see their impact grow, and more ecosystems would be saved by choosing organizations that have on the ground capacity, local knowledge, and access to the right constituencies. This article was first published by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, AP Perspectives – April 2019.

What Exactly Do We Mean by Systems

The systems-related term that seems most on the upswing at the moment is “systems entrepreneur”—usually an organization that can herd many different types of groups around a common, ambitious cause. From the Stanford Social Innovation Review Jun. 22, 2017 article “What Exactly Do We Mean by Systems” by Dan Vexler.
